Dinner Made Simple by Real Simple

Dinner Made Simple: 35 Everyday Ingredients, 350 Easy Recipes by Real Simple

I love Real Simple magazine and they always have great recipes. This collection is a little different in that the recipes are divided up by 35 staple ingredients with a few recipes that center around that ingredient. It was great because if you didn't like an ingredient or can't eat it (I can't eat most seafood) you could just skip that chapter. All the recipes look pretty straightforward and easy to make. There are definitely quite a few I'd like to try! Another great cookbook from Real Simple.

Better Homes and Gardens Jams and Jellies by Better Homes and Gardens

Better Homes & Gardens Jams and Jellies by Better Homes & Gardens

This is a solid book about canning jams, jellies, and spreads. I really like the introduction pages where they explain what kitchen tools/equipment you'll need, info about jars, tips for processing fruit and veggies for canning, and the difference between types of spreads (what is jelly, jam, compote, etc.). Then it jumps into the recipes. There were a few I'd like to try and lots of good gift ideas! As with any book of canning recipes, I would HIGHLY recommend taking an in-person canning class before attempting to home can. It's VERY easy, but you want to make sure you're doing it right and have someone who can answer questions for you. But, overall this looks like a good canning cookbook.

Barbecue by John Shelton Reed

Barbecue: a Savor the South Cookbook by John Shelton Reed

I love these Savor the South cookbooks! This one does not disappoint either. John Reed gives a good introduction to barbecue and how it varies from region to region in the South. I really like that he explains that the recipes in this book will be for "classic" barbecue and that since this is such a treasured tradition this is not the book for experimenting with recipes. There are definitely a few recipes I'd like to try. I would recommend this one for any fans of Southern cooking and barbecue in particular.
